    Fumes’ Carthew Neal recently collaborated on film development slate, Piki, bringing together New Zealand’s funniest writers, responsible for the country’s top box office hits. Piki’s first film “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” directed and written by Taika Waititi and starring Sam Neill and Julian Dennison premiered at Sundance 2016. The Orchard are releasing in North America, Vertigo in the UK and Synergy in France. The rest of the world is covered by Sony. Piki is distributing in New Zealand with Madman Entertainment, Madman are distributing in Australia.  Protagonist Pictures are the sales agent, co-repping the US with CAA.

    Carthew has also produced a feature documentary, Tickled which also premiered at Sundance 2016. It is being released in America by Magnolia Pictures, who are also handling the ROW sales. HBO have also acquired a license for the US. Vendetta Films are releasing in NZ and Australia.

    Fumes are collaborating with Jam3 (Canada) to produce an interactive documentary by Justin Pemberton about the Five Eyes Alliance. Released with TakePart.com I Spy (with my five eyes) is available here. 

    Fumes produced comedy series, Super City created by comedian, Madeleine Sami, Oscar™ nominated director, Taika Waititi (Flight of the Conchords writer/director) and prolific playwright Thomas Sainsbury. Airing Friday 10pm we delivered a 26% audience share to New Zealand broadcaster TV3 in their 18-49 demographic. The series won Best Actress and Best Comedy Script. American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) ordered a pilot with Aaron Kaplan Executive Producing. A second season aired in New Zealand with comedy heavyweight Oscar Kightley (Bro Town, Sione’s Wedding) directing. Both seasons are licensed to Madman Entertainment for NZ and Australia.

    With extensive expertise in popular factual programming, we produced two seasons of WA$TED for TV3 with ratings peaking at 29% share in the 18-49 demo at 8pm Tuesday. The format became a run-away hit winning Best Observational Format at the inaugural C21/FRAPA Awards at MIPCOM. Distributed by All3Media International it is screening in over 20 countries and formatted to USA, Canada, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, Finland, Israel, & Thailand. A sponsored website, Random House published book and schools programme was developed around the content.

    With a background in music videos and music management we are experienced in producing content and building communities online. Cartoon series, Aroha Bridge builds on a successful comic by writer and musician Jessica Hansell. The series delivered Youth and Maori audiences online and on mobile using a purpose built music-making app. The series was first broadcast on New Zealand’s largest newspaper, nzherald.co.nz. A second season was released in July 2016.
